what is theatrical costume?

hello again..so for the next post I will be explain what is theatrical costume...we always saw that theatrical costume is very extravagant, extra ordinary, weird, and beautiful...but what is the purpose of them wearing such costumes?...so basically costume is... can be a particular style of clothing worn to portray the wearer as a character or type of character other than their regular persona at a social event such as a masquerade, a fancy dress party or in a theatre performance.

One of the more prominent places people see costumes is in theatre, film and on television. In combination with other aspects, theatrical costumes can help actors portray characters' age, gender role, profession, social class, personality, ethnicity, and even information about the historical period/era, geographic location and time of day, as well as the season or weather of the theatrical performance. Often, stylized theatrical costumes can exaggerate some aspect of a character.

so here are some of my favorite costume from a different play or show...

''The king and I'' play portray anna who wears traditional dress from Britain and all the Siamese girls were wearing traditional Siam outfits.

this is a play from ''Puteri Gunung Ledang" where the puteri wear a traditional java costume and the prince wear the traditional malay men outfit

''The Great Gatsby'' is a famous literature book that has been turned to a play show...the setting of the show was in 20th century...in that era it was all short loose dress, feathers, fabric fringe, bob style hair, pearls, diamonds and smart suits for men...

a vintage 50's classic dress and a traditional malay costume in ''P.Ramlee the musical'' play was a colorful and extra ordinary...

so that's it for now...hope you enjoyed looking at some of these beautiful costume...thank you for reading...till next time...
